Screwless Locking Bar Design
Posted by Maker Gillian on May 26th 2025
April and May of 2025 was spent designing new features on the compression lock. My goal was to design and create a dovetailed locking bar that would be installed with no screws. The handle chassis had corresponding dove tails to hold the locking bar in place. The handle was machined using a dovetailed cutter, used to undermine the titanium chassis of the knife. Special thanks to the Harvey tool company, for their catalogue, which I used as a reference for tips and examples before successfully programming my first undercutting. The end result was a locking bar held rigidly into place without any screws. As for June I plan to continue working on the lockbar. I have decided to install a pin similar to a stop pin into the knife, in an attempt to stabilize the locking bar, on the compression lock. On my Fallen Star knife design I used an insert to stabilize the locking bar, but on the compression lock I will use a 303 Stainless steel dowel pin. I also have to face the locking geometeries of the back of the blade, where the locking bar makes conact, and finally I need to create the push button that will unlock the knife. So that is what I will be working on for the month of June.
